MAKING 'SENSE' OF THE RAINFOREST...

Elm Class have had a great start to 2018 with the thought-provoking Big Frieze topic - this has inspired many minds and given us all a deeper insight into Christianity. Today we began our new class topic, RAINFORESTS. We began with a sensory experience where we saw, heard, felt, smelt and tasted what a rainforest is like. We then completed a vocabulary activity and learnt lots of new words, such as canopy, species, emergent and endangered. All of the children also thought of a specific question and 'googled it' to find the answer! This afternoon the children had their first experience of using their school emails accounts. We had a detailed discussion about what we should and should not use

The Big Frieze Week 1

Birch class have had a fantastic first week exploring the first 4 panels of the 'big frieze'! For the Creation panel, we wrote poems and made collaborate collages - showing what 'creation' means to us. For 'The Fall' we discussed when the event in the Adam and Eve story occurred, then conducted a Science investigation on the how the pull of gravity causes objects to fall. We finished the week exploring panels 3 and 4 - People of God. Our focus was on the Hebrews and their Exodus from Egypt. We discussed the idea of what it means to be free, wrote diary entries as if we were Hebrew slaves, and finished off with Geography map work, plotting the route the Hebrews took to the promised land.

Karate PE Sessions

Today we welcomed Sensei Lee into school to deliver some karate sessions to Ash and Oak class. The children thoroughly enjoyed the sessions and learnt lots of the basic moves which will be developed over the coming term. They learnt some of the theory of Karate and that moves are only performed in Karate sessions and not repeated outside.
