Earthquake Challenge

Birch class became architects, material directors, accountants, project managers and builders and had a constructing challenge. Each team had to design, build, and test a model structure made out of uncooked spaghetti sticks. There model was tested on a specially built earthquake machine. This machine simulates the stresses that occur during earthquakes. The model aim was to withstand a 10 second earthquake without collapsing. They competed against other companies (teams) by attempting to build the best structure.

Natural Phenomena Day

On Thursday 21st November Birch class took part in a Natural Phenomena day. Half the day the class took part in some mini medics training from JMS First-aid. They learnt about the following: -What is first Aid -How to call for help -Keeping safe -How to assess a casualty – DRABC -CPR -Recovery Position -AEDs. All the enjoyed this part of the day and they all got a certificate to say they had the training. The other half of the day focussed on disaster prevention and relief. The children went to a committee meeeting and became members of a team which would help when a disaster happened somewhere in the world. Children in Need

Well done to everyone who came in PJs today to raise money for Children in Need today. At break-time the Pupil Parliament (with staff) ran some games/competitions including the CIN Duck Race (where Beakwell Tart was crowned the winner).We managed to raise a massive £225.16. Thank you!

Maths Week England

This week was Maths Week England and we decided to take part in some of the activities they had planned to raise the profile/enjoyment of mathematics in school. Children did some fun activities/puzzles with a maths focus and each year group did a mathematics quiz to enter a competition. Birch class watched a live webinar where a mathematics puzzle was shared and children worked live around the country to try to tackle this problem. Today children took part in some puzzles at lunch-time where some prizes were on offer. Well done to Jack B, Heidi, Athena and Millie for winning.

Elm's Viking Visitor!

On Wednesday 6th November, Elm were visited by a Viking! We all had a fantastic day learning more about the Viking way of life, armour, burial ceremonies, Kenning riddles and board games. We even learned a song in Viking language!
