On Tuesday 17th May two Year 5/6 teams entered the BALP cricket competition. Both teams took part superbly in what was a very long and in the end cold afternoon. Some brilliant, batting, bowling and fielding was evident with one team coming 5th overall and the others were Runners Up – losing the match by just one run! A fantastic achievement. Thank you to Mrs Elwyn for leading the team along with Stella Krajewski and Emma Bray who also stepped in. I must also thank all the parents who supported and transported.

Northamptonshire School Games - Gymnastics

On Monday 16th May teams from Ash and Elm went to Northamptonshire’s Gymnastics competition.  We all felt nervous and anxious as we performed one at a time in front of a judge.  Charlton started with body management including the splits 3 ways.  The second section was floor and we had to learn a sequence for this, we performed well and tried our hardest.  Finally we moved to the vault, our favourite – we had 2 attempts at a stretch jump, it was fun. In the year 1 and 2 competition we came 6th, and in the year 3 and 4 competition we came 12th.

We enjoyed our first experience at a gymnastics competition.

On Thursday, 12 children from Year 3 and 4 made up three teams as part of the BALP Mini Red Tennis Tournament. Many of them took part in an extra coaching session on Tuesday from Rosie Clarke which we are very grateful for. Some children again stepped in at the last minute to ensure that all the teams could compete. All the children played superbly and were extremely supportive of each other. They played a number of games as part of the round robin before the top four teams went through to play for 1st – 4th place. It was a wonderful event with a great atmosphere. I am delighted to announce that one of the teams got through to the final stage and went on to win the competition – a fantastic achievement. Well done to all the players: Maisie, Annabel, Charlotte, Amy Ann, Emil, Nathan, Ellis and Luca along with Evie, Christiana, Kit and Josh the BALP Mini Tennis Champions! Another trophy!! I must thank Rosie Clarke along with all the parents and Mrs Williams for helping to transport and support the children (even when it went on well past the expected finish time).

On the 4th May  Max G, Callum R and Samuel W were invited to Towcester Leisure Centre to take part in a goal ball competition with seven other schools.

The objective was to get the ball past the opposing team. We had to be blind folded and the ball had a bell in it to guide you. We won the first match 3-0. The next game we won again 4-1, it was really hard and nerve racking. We were now going in to the semi finals. We won this game too. We were now in the finals feeling scared and excited that we had got this far. We found this an easy game winning 8-1. This meant we had won the competition.

We are now going into the next stage of the competition on the 7th July.

On Monday 18th April 8 children from Years 3 and 4 went to Magdalen to play in the quick sticks hockey tournament against all the other schools in the Brackley Cluster. Each team played 5 matches to begin with that were 5 minutes each way. Team 4, Amy Ann, Nathan Ellis and Ruby, won three of the matches and drew two. Overall Team 4 came 2nd with the top of their group being Syresham.  This meant they were then going to play for 3rd or 4th place overall. Team 8 with Josh Kit Evie and Charlotte also played five matches. They lost one match, drew one and won the other three. They too had finished in 2nd place. Have you worked out what this meant would happen next?

Well the match for 3rd or 4th place was Charlton Team 4 vs Charlton Team 8. It was a little bit strange playing against our own school but nevertheless both teams fought hard, determined to win. In the end Team 8 scored twice quite near the end of the second half to finish in 3rd place and Team 4 finishing 4th. It was a great afternoon and they all really enjoyed it. Thank you to Charlotte and Ellis who helped this happen as they stepped forward on Monday morning.

On Tuesday 22nd March the Year 6 Netball Team represented the Magdalen Cluster as winners of the Hi 5 Netball tournament last week at the South Northants competition. They worked extremely hard as a team and played some excellent netball against some tough competition. In the first group stage they finished 3rd and played for 5th-8th position. They had some competitive games and fought to the end coming back overall in 6th position. Well Done to all the team – Caitlin, Molly, Thomas, Amelia, Euan, Ava and also thank you to Caitlin NJ who stepped in at the last minute to replace Calum.

On Wednesday Year 6 represented the school in the BALP Hi5 Netball tournament. This  was an exciting event with some excellent netball being played. It was a large round robin event with all 9 teams playing each other. Therefore, it was unclear until the end who had won the event! On the night we were told we were the runners up which everyone was extremely pleased with. However, that evening an email cam through informing us that there had been an error in the scoring and we were in fact the tournament WINNERS! Well done to the team, and thank you to Mrs Marsella Brookes and parents for their support. Next stage is Tuesday, at MCS!

Well Done Reece for coming 1st in the Year 1/2 Boys' race.

On Thursday 3rd March we attended the rescheduled BALP Cross Country event at Brackley Leisure Centre. A team of 38 runners came across the school with approximately 100 runners in each race. They were all superb in their efforts and showed, determination perseverance and some Grit to get through the race. Thank to the parents who came and supported and were part of the team as well as transporting children.

On Tuesday 12 selected children ran in the Cross Country at Beachborough. All the children dug deep and ran a fairly muddy/hilly course. There was a very strong field in both the boys and the girls event and 12 schools competed. The girls finished 5th as a team overall with Caitlin coming back first and the boys finished 8th as a team overall and Leo returned home first. Well done also to Christiana, Charlotte, Molly, Bea, Evie, Josh, Euan, Calum, Oliver, and Callum.

On Thursday a team of four entered the Level 3 Kurling competition at Kettering Academy. They left school early to travel to Kettering before taking part in a number of matches were they won 3 and lost 1. They boys were fantastic in their spirit and teamwork again and stayed focussed throughout. In the afternoon they moved to play for positions. The team were playing for 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th. After losing their semi-final (to the eventual winners) in a very close match they went on to play for 3rd or 4th. With a resounding success in this match they came overall 3rd place – Bronze medal winners! This competition was a competition for the whole of Northamptonshire with 10 teams competing – one from each area of Northamptonshire. Well Done to the boys and Mrs Marsella -Brookes who accompanied as a team coach.

We had a strong team enter the BALP Basketball tournament on Wednesday 24th February after school at MCS. Nine teams from the cluster took part and having won all our matches in the preliminary rounds we went on to play for 1st, 2nd or 3rd place. The Year 4 and 5’s played superbly and really worked hard as a team to support each other and eventually finished in 3rd place. Well Done to them  proud of them all.

Due to the postponement of the BALP Cross Country as a school we held our own cross country race at school on Thursday 11th February. The children (and staff) all had a fantastic afternoon and there was a wonderful feeling of spirit and encouragement as well as some superb runners. Well done to all of them lots of perseverance, determination and hard work evident on the course! I would also like to thank the staff, the parents for their support and cheering, and volunteers, Mike Smith, Ms England and Mark Brown who all helped the afternoon go smoothly.

On Wednesday 13th January a team of 19 children went to the BALP Sportshall Athletics competition at MCS. Getting this many children from Year 5 and 6 was quite tricky for a small school so we were extremely grateful to Ruby, Maisie, Genna and Eva who stepped in at the last minute to compete for us. The children were very supportive and encouraging, not giving up and persevering in all the events. The boys finished 3rd overall and the girls 4th. Well done to you all. Thank you to Ms England for helping the orgainsation of the team on the night and also to all the parents and carers who transported the children in a rather busy car park and pick up zone!

Early evening on the 4th of November 10 boys, 7 girls, some staff and parents went to Magdalen School for a football tournament. We entered one boys team and one girls team. The first match for the boys was against Brackley Junior School. Joshua scored the first goal and then Oliver scored to give us a 2-0 win. Their next game was against Southfields. Thomas scored a smashing hat-trick and Oliver rounded the game off with an extra goal to give us a 4-0 win. Next up, the boys were playing Helmdon. Near the start Helmdon did score one goal but Joshua soon scored to make it 1 all. Oliver also scored closely followed by Joshua again, who scored to give us a 3-1 win. So the boys managed to win all the games in their group.

The girl’s first game was against Southfield. Our goalkeeper Ava saved lots of potential goals and Evie came close to scoring a goal. The team all defended well and the result was 0-0.  The girls’ next game was against Bracken Leas. The girls held onto their great defence which resulted in another 0-0 draw. The results after the first round of games left the boys as winners of their group and the girls runners-up of theirs. The girls’ play-off game was against Brackley Juniors. The opposition were like giants compared to some of our girls but they still put in an amazing performance. In the end they lost 2-0 and were awarded 4th place (out of 6 teams). The boys’ first play-off game was against Brackley Juniors again. Kian gave us a starting goal but Brackley Juniors soon matched it. However, Oliver scored a goal that ended the match with a 2-1 win. By the time of their second play-off (against Croughton) it had started raining. Croughton scored one goal at the start but the rain didn’t stop our boys from giving one of their best performances and Joshua, Kian and Thomas all scoreing to give us a 3-1 win. Overall the boys finished the tournament (out of 11 teams) in an amazing 1st place. Everyone had a great time and it was wonderful to see both teams celebrating.

We sent a strong team to this tournament and played very well. Some discrepancies in the scoring meant we came 5th overall although we felt confident we should have been 3rd. The team were  a huge credit to us all, particularly as there was an error with the scoring. Whatever the outcome and final placing, those who attended said how well they all played and how sporting they all were. Well done to you all.

On Wednesday 20th and Thursday 21st May, a team of athletes represented our school in both the field and track events at Bracken Leas at the annual BALP Athletics event. On Wednesday a team of 12 children from Years 3-6 went for the field events with Ms England and Mrs Smith. Unfortunately it was a bit hit or miss with the weather. We all tried our very best, had a great time and supported each other. Well done to everyone - the following children deserve a special mention - Kit 1st in the long jump, Harley 2nd in the long jump, Eesha 2nd in the cricket ball throw, Maisie 3rd in the Long jump and Maddie joint 3rd in the javelin. On the Thursday a team of 16 went after school for the track events. Again we were extremely supportive of each other and did a lot of cheering! We had  few children from different year groups having to come forward and run for the year above them - thank you to Max and Aimee for doing that. Again a big well done to everyone. the following children got places overall - Leo 1st in the Yr 3 Sprint, Joshua 2nd in the Yr 3 Sprint and Maisie 2nd in the Yr 3 Sprint. Thank you to everyone who helped transport and support - a fabulous atmosphere and event.

On Wednesday 22nd April 2015 a mixed Year 5/6 Team took part in the BALP basketball festival. We managed (just about with help from a few friends) to field 2 teams - Charlton A and Charlton B. Unfortunately they were in the same heat. They all played superbly and demonstrated some superb sporting skills. Charlton B played for 5th or 6th against Helmdon and finished 6th overall. Charlton A played for 3rd or 4th against BJS and following a strong first half overall came 3rd. Well done to everyone especially the girls who ended up playing both the A and the B matches. Thank you to mums' and dad's for transporting and supporting too.

On Wednesday 15th April 2015, four children from Year 5, joined a range of other children from across Northamptonshire for a Sports Crew Day at Moulton College. In the morning there were three different parts - Marketing, Media and Sport and then in the afternoon they got to choose 2 sports to take part in - they were fortunate to get their first and second choice of TriGolf and  Kwik Cricket. They all had a fabulous day and are looking forward to implementing a variety of new activities at lunchtimes for everyone to take part in. Thank you to Mrs Marsella Brookes for taking them and staying with them for the day.

On Wednesday 25th March 2015 a fantastic team of year 3 and 4 represented the school in the annual BALP Quicksticks hockey tournament. During the first group stage the team won 3 matches and lost 1. They were then playing for 3rd or 4th in a playoff match againast Southfield A. This was a tight match but ended in 1-0 win to Southfield, this meant overall we came an imprerssive 4th. Thank you to Ms England for coaching and leading the team and also the parents for supporting them.

On Wednesday 4th March 2015 a squad of 9 children from years 5 and 6 represented our school at the BALP Cluster High 5 Netball tournament. They all played superbly and overall came 5th in the tournamnet. Well Done to all of you! Thank you Ms England for leading the team.

On Wednesday 11th February 2015, 44 children represented our school at the BALP Cross Country event at Brackley Leisure Centre.
