SPORTS RESULTS 2016 - 2017

Dance Festival

On Wednesday 7th May Year 2 had a fabulous time at the annual BALP Dance festival. Mr Smith had selected a piece of water/weather themed music and the leaders had choreographed a routine which the children learnt and then performed at the end of the day to a packed audience. Thank you again to parents for supporting the event with the transport and being
able to watch them perform.

They all put on a great routine and it was also lovely to see ex
pupils leading the groups so well.

Tennis Tournament

On Monday 8th May, Mrs Seamark and Mrs O’Neill accompanied two Y3/4 tennis teams to Brackley Tennis Club for the annual BALP Tennis competition. We were very sad to be removing the trophy from the cabinet. Both teams played extraordinarily well and both got through the initial rounds. They then played each other in the semi-final which they coped with very well with the A team being successful in getting through to the final. I am delighted to announce that the A team won and were successful in returning the trophy and finishing as overall winners and team B came back 3rd – brilliant work! Well done to Charlotte, Christiana, Alfie and Ellis as well as Arthur, Emil, Lola and Isabel - a marvellous achievement. Thank you to all who supported and transported as well as Rosie Clark Tennis, who gave some extra coaching to the team.

Quad Kids

On Monday 15th May a team of Y5 and Y6 went to MCS for the annual Quad Kids competition. They all tried so very hard and it is difficult to know in this event how well you did as the times and distances all transfer into points. The team finished 5th overall. I would like to give a special mention to Leo A who scored an incredible score way above the expectation for his age group. A big well done to the whole team – Leo, Leo, Josh, Samuel, Callum, Maisie, Bea, Charlie, Eve and Ellie as well as Ms England for leading the team and parents for transporting and supporting.

On Monday 27th March Newbottle and Charlton school hosted a gymnastics competition. We were fortunate to have two judges to come along and oversee the competition. The children were superb and even those who weren't competing led well and supported others. There was a KS1 competition with teams from Helmdon and Waynflete along with ourselves (Kayla, Lola, Mya and Isabelle) taking part. There was  also a Year 3/4 team (Brady, Lily, Christiana, Lola) with teams from BJS and Helmdon present too. The children all completed a floor routine and a vault. In the Year 3 /4 competition we finished in second place and in KS1 we won!! Well Done everyone especially Ms England who led and organised the event.

They all tried superbly and were not only amazing with their efforts in running but in their support too. A special mention to Christiana who finished in 3rd place in the Yr3/4 girls race. Thank
you to the parents for transporting and supporting the event as well as Mr Smith, Mrs Seamark, Mrs Marsella- Brookes and Ms England from school.

Quicksticks Hockey

A Year 3 and 4 mixed team went to MCS on Mon 24th April for the BALP Quicksticks Hockey tournament. It was quite a chilly evening for the middle of April and also a little rain/hail fell but the children continued none the less and put on a fabulous performance. After some close matches and brilliant play they finished in 5th position overall. Well Done to Abi, Amy Ann, Lola, Emily, Arthur, Ollie and Ellis. Thank you to Ms England for coaching and managing as well as the parents for transporting and supporting.

On Wednesday 8th March some Y3's had a friendly football match against Syresham. It was a fairly even match with some fantastic goals saved and great team play. One goal did get past with the final score being 1-0 to Syresham. I would like to say well done to the whole team – Alfie, Arthur, Greg, Theo, Freddie and Nat and also Mrs Marsella-Brookes who refereed half the match. Thank you to those who supported - we are hoping for a rematch next term!

Year 3 friendly football match

Well done to Ellis, Kit, Joshua, Nathan, Ruby, Eve, Evie and Charlotte who took part in the BALP Basketball competition at MCS on 1st March 2017. They had to play a lot of matches in quick succession due to a delay with a trip we had been on but they all played superbly and supported each other well. They showed some great basketball but just couldn't seem to score! Overall they finished 6th.

Take 6 Basketball Competition

Beachborough Cross Country

On 28th February, we took twelve of our runners to a cross country tournament at Beachborough School. The weather in the morning was glorious however by the afternoon, things had changed. There were over a hundred children taking part from schools far and wide. At the moment, we don’t yet know what the children’s final positions were but out of our girls ,Christiana reached the finishing line first covered in mud ! Then it was the boys’ turn with Leo Anderson being our first boy home. Well done to all the team for trying hard and representing the school brilliantly. The children were rewarded by some tasty snacks in the sports hall which were gratefully received.

WINTER GAMES - Kettering Arena

On Friday Leo, Samuel, Callum, Charlie, Josh, Thomas ad Ellis went to Kettering Arena to take part in the Sitting Volleyball Finals. After a shaky start they worked hard as a team to have no further defeats leading them to the final. Here they met the team they lost to in the first match - there was huge determination to try and not let it happen again! Despite some amazing play they could not beat their opponents and after a close tiebreak sadly lost. This however meant overall they finished in second place - SILVER medals all round! Well done team.

Thank you to Ms England for transporting and coaching as well as the other parents who supported the event.

Sitting Volleyball Competition

On Thursday evening (2nd February) we took part in a sitting volleyball competition which was a fabulous event. It was the first time it has been organised for primary schools. There was real supportive playing from all of the team - Thomas B, Leo B, Callum, Samuel, Joshua and Ellis. This resulted in us winning the overall competition by beating not one by two Bracken Leas teams!!! Therefore this team gets to go forward to the Winter Games along with the Kurling team. I would like to thank parents for transporting children to the event Kim for supporting and Vicky for leading the team.

On Wednedsay 1st February the same team who won the Goal ball competition last year were again successful in bringing home gold medals. The team of Max, Callum and Samuel did not let one goal pass them – they will now proceed to the county competition in July. Well Done Boys and thank you to Vicky  and Vicky who accompanied them (must be something about the name!

Goal Ball Competition

BALP Sportshall Athletics

On Wednesday 11th January 2017 a team of 18 went to MCS for the annual BALP Sportshall Athletics competition. The children split into a boys and a girl’s team and each took part in a set of field events and track events. As the competition progresses we are not completely sure how well we are doing as heats and events are taking place all at the same time and scores are given on distances and times. At the end of the event (which did overrun a little) the results were announced and I am delighted to say we finished Runners Up overall. A fabulous achievement – well done to Leo, Leo, Xander, Nathan, Samuel, Callum, Luke Kit and Josh, as well as Maisie, Bea, Grace, Ellie, Charlie , Eve, Ruby, Evie and Charlotte. Also thank you to Mrs Williams and Ms England for being there supporting and coordinating the teams. Sadly no spectators are allowed in the hall due to the event taking up the whole space but thank you to those who transported too.

Kurling Competition

Charlie, Callum, Ellis and Samuel represented our school at the South Northants Kurling competition at Sponne School, Towcester. They were a fantastic team and won every game meaning they came 1st overall and will progress to the Level 3 games in February.

Small Schools Football Competition

We turned up to EWS on Monday 10th October, with just 6 players and quite an inexperienced side with only half of our players used to playing regularly in a team at the weekend.  Nevertheless, we gave a good account of ourselves.

The competition consisted of 8 teams divided into 2 groups of 4.  In our first game we came up against The Bramptons and despite having a number of chances we were easily beaten 3-0.  Our second game, against Staverton, was a close fought contest and again we had a number of chances but in the end we were lucky to survive as Staverton hit the cross bar in the final minutes but it ended 0-0.

So we went into our final pool game against John Hellins needing a win and we  went about it in a determined fashion with Callum RIggs going on a long mazy run to slot the ball into the corner of the net for our first goal. This was quickly followed by a similar goal from Josh which gave us a deserved 2-0 win.

We waited nervously to find out our fate as we needed to finish at least 2nd in our pool to progress to the Semi-Finals.  But although we were equal second place, finishing on equal points with Staverton with exactly the same Goal Difference, on the next deciding criteria we lost out as Staverton had scored one more goal than us in their pool games.  So that 0-0 had cost us dearly and we were left with a battle for 5th or 6th place.

So in our final game we were confident of victory but Paulerspury had other ideas as they took an early lead.  But we managed to take control of the game as we threaded the ball to Josh up front who was able to get on the end of some good through balls and bagged himself a hat-trick to give us a great 3-1 victory and a creditable 5th place.    Our only defeat in the competition was at the hands of the eventual finalists so I was very proud of all the boys efforts particularly Sam who kept the opposition at bay on many occasions and Luke who showed everybody just what a determined and capable defender he is.

Mr Johnson.

BALP Tag Rugby Competition - 12.10.16

On Wednesday 12th October a team of year 5 and 6 ventured to the Rugby Club in Brackley for the annual BALP Tag Rugby Competition.

Maisie, Grace, Genna, Ellie, Ruby, Samuel, Leo, Leo, Josh and Kit played 7 games overall and the whole team had huge perseverance, gave great support and worked so well together.  for

Overall they came in joint 5th position. Well Done to them all and all the parents and carers for supporting as well as Ms England for coaching.

BALP Football Competition

Team: Leo A, Leo B, Mohzam, Moheez, Josh, Xander, Max, Ryan, Sam, Callum.

5/11/16 - We were faced with a league of 8 teams all playing each other but we started off badly with a 3-0 defeat to Bracken Leas.  However, morale was soon lifted with a 5-1 win over Southfield A which was followed up by a 3-1 win over Syresham.  Confidence was definitely on the rise but our games against BJS and Croughton were hard fought and both ended 1-1.

We then suffered another loss (2-1) to Southfields B who were the eventual winners.  Never the less we finished on a high as we won the last game against Helmdon 3-2 after being 2-1 down.

In the end we finished a very creditable 3rd place finish and we had quite a few players who had never appeared at tournaments before and it was great to see them take part.  We had lots of effort and commitment along with a great team spirit and to take 3rd place was excellent.

Scorers included Xander, Callum, Moheez, Leo A, Leo B and Josh.

Special mention must go to Sam Wiseman who was awarded with the Spirit of the game certificate for Charlton. You would have to go a long way to see a goalkeeping performance from someone his age, that contained so much bravery, commitment and determination.  He was quite simply, outstanding.

Written by Mr Johnson, Football coach.

My thanks to Mr Johnson for leading the team so superbly as well Ms England, Mrs Marsella Brookes and all the parents and carers who supported the event.  Mrs Smith, Headteacher
